Coaching is a relatively new but effective method, aimed to guide children, adolescents and their parents towards effective change and personal growth. This can be on a behavioural and/or a social-emotional level. The main aim is to uncover obstacles that are currently holding you back from achieving your goals. Coaching is a solution-based and future-oriented approach.

As a coach, I help children, adolescents and their parents (re)discover their strengths and talents in order to unleash their potential and strive for positive change.

My coaching sessions follow the principals of Positive Psychology and I offer my clients ways to deal with certain life challenges and I help them build their confidence and self-concept. Both my clinical experience as my research background has helped me shape my coaching sessions towards uncovering an individual’s strengths, sense of resilience, and potential.

I offer coaching sessions (45-60 minutes per session) in a safe and informal setting, so we can explore your thoughts, patterns and behaviours together. During the first session, we are not only getting to know each other better, but both you and your parents are asked to come up with appropriate goals to set up a personal development plan. It is essential for parents to be involved and committed to the personal development plan as well.  This plan helps to guide you and keep you in the right direction and after each session, we discuss our progress. The clients I see are between the age of 8 and 18 or parents of children from this age group. The sessions will be in English (but I’m also fluent in Dutch).

Each coaching session (max 60 min) is R600. I’m registered as a coach with COMENSA South Africa.

The practice is open every Saturday from 08.00-13.00, only on appointment.
The address is 27 Derry Street, Vredehoek (1st floor, the office is called Cape Doctor).

My name is Stijn de Leeuw, I was born and raised in The Netherlands. After my High School years, I decided to move to Amsterdam and study psychology.

In June 2017, I graduated with merit as a Clinical Developmental Psychologist at the University of Amsterdam.

After working as a psychologist, child/parent coach, and lecturer, I moved to Cape Town in 2018.

I came to South Africa to pursue a PhD in Developmental Psychology at the University of Cape Town, under the supervision of Dr. Susan Malcolm-Smith.

To combine research and practice, I’ve decided to start offering private coaching sessions to children, adolescents and parents who present with diverse difficulties.

Besides work I really love to go for a run, I do Crossfit and play tennis with my friends.

Growing up in the Netherlands, we didn’t have any mountains and we lived far away from the beach. Therefore, whenever I have some spare time, I love to take my bike and explore all the nature that surrounds this beautiful city
